The Greater Hyderabad Municipal
Corporation plans to popularize the Energy Conservation Building both government and commercial, Code beginning with 25 model buildings being made
reference models for others. The code will be applicable to buildings
constructed on 1,000 sq mt of land, with built-up area of over 2,000 sq mt. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana adopted the mandatory Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) for commercial
buildings in 2014. The Administrative Staff College of India and the Natural
Resources Defence Council (NRDC) are engaged as knowledge partners to develop
the code and guide through its adoption. As per the code, multiplexes,
hospitals, hotels, and convention centres have to comply with ECBC. The code
offers star rating system.
