According to some media reports Reliance Jio is likely to launch its 4G VoLTE feature phone at INR 500 by this month. This low-cost feature phone may bring another wave of disruption alike in the telecom industry, this time in the handset business. The phone is expected to be launched at the Reliance Industries' annual general meeting scheduled for July 21. A new tariff plan is also likely as the current Dhan Dhana Dhan offer will end by this month. The phone will be priced at INR 500 as the company looks to attract 2G users to 4G, HSBC told ET. The move will help Jio strengthen its subscriber base. As of April 2017, Jio had 112.55 million subscribers. The limited proliferation of 4G handsets means the company has to focus on getting more people buy such phones.

In India, Jio is the only operator working on a VoLTE-only network. Other players like Bharti Airtel and Vodafone are primarily 2G/3G networks with VoLTE options available in select cities. Jio has already placed orders for 18-20 million of these phones with key Chinese phone makers like Zhejiang Techchain, Crave and Megaphone, according to the ET report. The shipments are expected to start from July-end of early August, says the report. According to previous reports, Jio is planning for sub Rs 1,500 4G VoLTE feature phones. The move would make sense for Jio as the company’s 4G SIM cards are not compatible with 3G smartphones. On average, a 4G smartphone costs around Rs 3,000. Some of Jio’s Lyf Flame 4G smartphones are available for less than Rs 3,000. Other domestic players like Micromax and Intex are also working on sub-Rs 2,000 4G smartphones.

Nokia will re-launch the 3310, perhaps the best-loved and most resilient phone in history.

The phone, originally released in 2000 and in many ways beginning the modern age of mobiles, will be sold as a way of getting lots of battery life in a nearly indestructible body.

However, as the world progressed towards the Internet era, Nokia failed to match pace with the changing trends and ended up being acquired by Microsoft. And now, Nokia is all set to re-invent itself by re-launching its iconic mobile phone 3310. No, we’re not kidding!

According to a tweet by the serial leaker Evan Blass, Nokia is all set to reintroduce 3310 along with introducing its Android-based smartphones– Nokia 3, Nokia 6 and its watered down version Nokia 5 at the Mobile World Congress 2017 (MWC 2017) that is scheduled to take place in Barcelona later this month.

Apple Set to Begin Making iPhones in India by April's end. pc: cultofmac.com
It seems like Apple has come to an agreement with the government of Indian state, Karnataka, to set up a manufacturing plant in Bangalore, aka Bengaluru.

Its factory in Bangalore, Karnataka, will be run by Wistron, and all of the devices it produces will be sold locally. Apple will be hoping that the move can bolster the iPhone’s presence in India, where it has somewhat struggled in the past due to its high price tag.

The U.S. company has tapped Taiwan’s Wistron Corp. to put together its phones in the tech capital of Bangalore in Karnataka, said Priyank Kharge, the state’s information technology minister. Apple executives met with him in January and confirmed the timeline, he said in an interview.

“Apple’s iPhones will be made in Bangalore and all devices will be targeted at the domestic market,” said Kharge, IT minister for Karnataka, of which Bangalore is the capital. Kharge said the state will help Apple if it decides to turn to other contract manufacturers in the region. “We did not discuss any other incentives,” he said.

Here's what Tim Cook said about India on the company's earnings call earlier this week,

Google stated that it will allow smartphone users to 'search' for even when there is no date connection in the mobile. Google, whatever of its bright engineers cannot trounce laws of physics and return with the search results from the web when there is no internet connection in a smartphone. The Google app engine will now won't tell offline users that it can't complete the search results. Alternately, it will lineup the search query and finish the search results when the mobile connects to internet. Mobile networks can sometimes be inconsistent, which means that even if you have a data connection when you start your search, it might fail before you get your results back, from the company blog. With this change, search results are saved as soon as they are retrieved, even if you lose connection afterwards or go into airplane mode. So the next time you lose service, feel free to queue up your searches, put your phone away and carry on with your day. A few weeks ago Google announced that billing for Google Drive storage subscription will move on to the Play Store in January, and it appears this is already live for some people. According to an AndroidPolice report, users who are already subscribed to Google Drive can check to see if the billing has moved on to their Google Play account page. For those who can’t find it, they will be getting the new billing system later this month.

When Google Play introduced carrier billing for users in India last year, it only became available for Idea subscribers. That’s about to change as the feature expands to two of the country’s largest mobile networks.

Android users on postpaid plans with Airtel and Vodafone will soon be able to pay for apps and in-app purchases on the same bill as their monthly mobile usage. According to Medianama, the new feature will reach roughly 182.6 million subscribers across these three carriers in the country.

That’s big because many mobile users in India aren’t comfortable using credit cards: Less than 30 million of them are in use nationwide. However, it’s worth noting that since November, Google Play began accepting payments through Netbanking services which connect directly to customers’ bank accounts and authenticate them using single-use passwords sent across via SMS.

It looks like the carrier billing feature is still rolling out, though. At present, only Idea is listed on Google Play’s support pages as a supported carrier in India, and the SMS-based verification to enable carrier billing for Airtel doesn’t seem to be working yet (I received an error message and couldn’t proceed with verification).

Hopefully the rollout will be completed soon. We’ve contacted Google to learn more and will update this post if there’s a response.

Update: Carrier billing now seems to be operational for Airtel customers. If you’re on Vodafone in India, please let us know in the comments if it’s working for you.

WhatsApp might stop working for many users as the company made it public that it would end support for the popular chat app on older handsets by the end of 2016.

The company said dropping support on older devices would give it the opportunity to focus more on mobile platforms used by the vast majority of the people.

The mobile platforms that would no longer enjoy WhatsApp are Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7, iPhone 3GS and iOS 6. The reason is lack of functionality to support the upcoming features.

"While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future," the company wrote in an official blog post last February.

For the owners of the affected devices, the only way to start using WhatsApp again is by upgrading to a newer version of Android, iPhone or Windows Phone.

The Facebook-owned company earlier said it would end support to BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60, but later it said it was extending the support for the devices until 30 June, 2017.
These changes are believed to allow WhatsApp to deeply integrate encryption and other privacy features, reports the Independent.

WhatsApp might introduce more new features. The changes rumoured to be part of updates scheduled for 2017 include a feature that would allow users to edit or delete messages after they are sent.

The company said in a blog that the information is also determined to phones, very few people use. Mobiles in the future will not support the features that appear on WhatsApp. WhatsApp users to continue using the company before the start of 2017 is suggested to upgrade your old cell phone. You can easily upgrade the software, go to Settings, for more information you can go to the outlet nearest to your company.

WhatsApp social media has its own distinct. WhatsApp messages exchanged on a daily basis is about 42 billion. There are nearly 1 billion users in the world. WhatsApp com Jain and former employee of Yahoo in 2009 was started by Brian Acton, later in 2014, was acquired by Facebook.

A major advanced technological foster in the field of high speed beam-scanning devices can increase the speed of 2D and 3D printing by up to 1,000 times, the researchers have been reported. By Using a space-charge-controlled KTN beam (an object that pushes aside the flow of something) a kind of crystal made of potassium tantalite and potassium niobate with a large electro-optic effect, the researchers found that the scanning at a much higher speed is possible. This research was published in the journal Scientific Reports, could benefit everyone, in that something being printed in 3D that once took an hour would now take seconds, and 20,000 pages printed in 2D would take one minute, said Shizhuo Yin, Professor at School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Pennsylvania State University, US. Basically, when the crystal materials are applied to an electric field, they create uniform reflecting distributions, that can push aside an incoming light beam, Yin said. We managed and did/done a well-thought-out study on indications of speed and found out the phase change (from one thing to another) of the electric field is one of the limiting factors," Yin noted. To overcome this issue, Yin and his team of (people who work to find information), eliminated the electric field-caused phase change (from one thing to another) in a nanodisordered KTN crystal by making it work at a higher temperature. They not only went beyond the Curie temperature (the temperature in which certain materials lose their magnetic properties, replaced by caused magnetism), they went beyond the critical end point in which a liquid and its vapour can live together.

This increased the scanning speed from the microsecond range to the nanosecond government in power and improved high-speed imaging, broadband optical communications, and ultra-fast laser display and printing, said the study. A technology like this would be especially meaningful in the medical industry -- high speed imaging would now be in (happening or viewable immediately, without any delay), Yin said. For example, optometrists who use a non-harmful imaging test that uses light waves to take (thin slice that can be looked at) pictures of a person's retina, would be able to have the 3D image of their patients' retinas as they are (doing/completing) the surgery, so they can see what needs to be corrected during the procedure, the (people who work to find information) explained.

About 59 % of India's land area is unguarded to modest or extreme earthquakes, as per the seismic zone map released on Tuesday. It also shows how out of the total 304 Million menages in the country, about 95 % are unguarded to earthquakes in different degrees. In next coming three months, from mobile phones the map will be accessible on to know how quake-vulnerable your home or office is. The map has been designed by NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) and BMTPC (Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council). The colour-coding easily conveys location in five different zones of earthquake vigour. These maps show the boundaries of hazard zones of various potency. The real benefit will be that people can locate themselves in their district boundary and find the possible intensity of quakes.

The development projects will also needs to include lightening measures against the disaster collision at the inceptive plan formulation, as well as execution stages so that whatever is developed should not suffer damage later. The atlas will be acutely useful for this, a housing ministry official said.
