According to some media reports Reliance Jio is likely to launch its 4G VoLTE feature phone at INR 500 by this month. This low-cost feature phone may bring another wave of disruption alike in the telecom industry, this time in the handset business. The phone is expected to be launched at the Reliance Industries' annual general meeting scheduled for July 21. A new tariff plan is also likely as the current Dhan Dhana Dhan offer will end by this month. The phone will be priced at INR 500 as the company looks to attract 2G users to 4G, HSBC told ET. The move will help Jio strengthen its subscriber base. As of April 2017, Jio had 112.55 million subscribers. The limited proliferation of 4G handsets means the company has to focus on getting more people buy such phones.

In India, Jio is the only operator working on a VoLTE-only network. Other players like Bharti Airtel and Vodafone are primarily 2G/3G networks with VoLTE options available in select cities. Jio has already placed orders for 18-20 million of these phones with key Chinese phone makers like Zhejiang Techchain, Crave and Megaphone, according to the ET report. The shipments are expected to start from July-end of early August, says the report. According to previous reports, Jio is planning for sub Rs 1,500 4G VoLTE feature phones. The move would make sense for Jio as the company’s 4G SIM cards are not compatible with 3G smartphones. On average, a 4G smartphone costs around Rs 3,000. Some of Jio’s Lyf Flame 4G smartphones are available for less than Rs 3,000. Other domestic players like Micromax and Intex are also working on sub-Rs 2,000 4G smartphones.

Nokia will re-launch the 3310, perhaps the best-loved and most resilient phone in history.

The phone, originally released in 2000 and in many ways beginning the modern age of mobiles, will be sold as a way of getting lots of battery life in a nearly indestructible body.

However, as the world progressed towards the Internet era, Nokia failed to match pace with the changing trends and ended up being acquired by Microsoft. And now, Nokia is all set to re-invent itself by re-launching its iconic mobile phone 3310. No, we’re not kidding!

According to a tweet by the serial leaker Evan Blass, Nokia is all set to reintroduce 3310 along with introducing its Android-based smartphones– Nokia 3, Nokia 6 and its watered down version Nokia 5 at the Mobile World Congress 2017 (MWC 2017) that is scheduled to take place in Barcelona later this month.

Apple Set to Begin Making iPhones in India by April's end. pc: cultofmac.com
It seems like Apple has come to an agreement with the government of Indian state, Karnataka, to set up a manufacturing plant in Bangalore, aka Bengaluru.

Its factory in Bangalore, Karnataka, will be run by Wistron, and all of the devices it produces will be sold locally. Apple will be hoping that the move can bolster the iPhone’s presence in India, where it has somewhat struggled in the past due to its high price tag.

The U.S. company has tapped Taiwan’s Wistron Corp. to put together its phones in the tech capital of Bangalore in Karnataka, said Priyank Kharge, the state’s information technology minister. Apple executives met with him in January and confirmed the timeline, he said in an interview.

“Apple’s iPhones will be made in Bangalore and all devices will be targeted at the domestic market,” said Kharge, IT minister for Karnataka, of which Bangalore is the capital. Kharge said the state will help Apple if it decides to turn to other contract manufacturers in the region. “We did not discuss any other incentives,” he said.

Here's what Tim Cook said about India on the company's earnings call earlier this week,

WhatsApp might stop working for many users as the company made it public that it would end support for the popular chat app on older handsets by the end of 2016.

The company said dropping support on older devices would give it the opportunity to focus more on mobile platforms used by the vast majority of the people.

The mobile platforms that would no longer enjoy WhatsApp are Android 2.1 and Android 2.2, Windows Phone 7, iPhone 3GS and iOS 6. The reason is lack of functionality to support the upcoming features.

"While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future," the company wrote in an official blog post last February.

For the owners of the affected devices, the only way to start using WhatsApp again is by upgrading to a newer version of Android, iPhone or Windows Phone.

The Facebook-owned company earlier said it would end support to BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60, but later it said it was extending the support for the devices until 30 June, 2017.
These changes are believed to allow WhatsApp to deeply integrate encryption and other privacy features, reports the Independent.

WhatsApp might introduce more new features. The changes rumoured to be part of updates scheduled for 2017 include a feature that would allow users to edit or delete messages after they are sent.

The company said in a blog that the information is also determined to phones, very few people use. Mobiles in the future will not support the features that appear on WhatsApp. WhatsApp users to continue using the company before the start of 2017 is suggested to upgrade your old cell phone. You can easily upgrade the software, go to Settings, for more information you can go to the outlet nearest to your company.

WhatsApp social media has its own distinct. WhatsApp messages exchanged on a daily basis is about 42 billion. There are nearly 1 billion users in the world. WhatsApp com Jain and former employee of Yahoo in 2009 was started by Brian Acton, later in 2014, was acquired by Facebook.

If you were alive in the early nothingies you probably know that Nokia is famous for making indestructible phones. The 3310 was the subject of endless online strength jokes, such as "Tried to bury a Nokia 3310 with a digger. It was back on my table the next morning."

Keeping with tradition, a Nokia phone is reported to have saved someone's life in Afghanistan by stopping a bullet from entering their chest.

A picture posted to Twitter shows a Nokia 301, released in 2013, that appears to have caught a bullet, the remains of which are lodged just behind the phone's smashed screen.

The picture was shared by Peter Skillman, who (in the past) worked on the team that created the bullet proof phone and now works at Microsoft as the general manager for user experience at Windows Desktop. It is not clear whose life the bullet saved.

In response to Skillman's post, other users posted pictures of the "indestructible" Nokia 3310 being used as a bullet proof jacket and a beating ram.

If the Nokia 301 did in fact prevent a death, it wouldn't be the first such event. Other cases have involved smartphones such as the Nokia Lumia 520 and Huawei P8 Lite catching bullets.

The Lumia 520 was dubbed "bulletproof" and became the subject of a popular idea that spreads quickly among people a after it saved the life of an off-duty police officer in Brazil.

Lumigon is back with the T3, the follow-up to its T2 smartphone, and the Danish company is attempting to raise the bar by including a night-vision camera, a first for a smartphone. The T3 comes with a 4MP night vision camera with dual IR flash that will allow you to take pictures in complete darkness. The rest of Lumigon's new flagship is no slouch either, with a serious lineup of specs (outside of the crappy display):
  • Marine-grade 316 stainless steel chassis and damage resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 4
  • 4.8-inch Super AMOLED 720p display
  • Android 6.0
  • MediaTek Helio X10 2.2 GHz 64-bit octa core CPU
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 128GB of internal memory
  • 13MP rear camera with dual tone flash, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), 5MP front camera
  • 4MP night vision camera with dual IR flash

The T3's high-grade stainless makes it one of the most resilient metal smartphones on the market. It isn't the most aesthetically pleasing phone, but it is dust and water resistant, comes with a 360-degree fingerprint sensor, and is even available in a 24-karat gold version. But let's be real, the only reason to get this phone is for the night vision camera, and if you're thinking about picking one up, it's going to cost you. The Lumigon T3 starts at $740 ($925 if you live in Europe), and is available now on Lumigon's website and through select dealers.

Nirmala Sitharaman (India's commerce and industry minister) said on Monday that the government has rejected Apple's proposal to sell revamped iPhones. Nirmala said government is not in favour of any company for selling used phones, however certified they may be. The Apple wanted to attract Indian customers its a blow to the company. The wide majority of smartphones sold in world's second most teeming nation have a price tag under $150. Providentially for Apple there is some good news when it comes to opening its own stores in India, its other big strategy in the country. The finance Ministry recently said Apple if it wished to open stores in the country, it would have to sell at least 30% locally sourced goods. Nirmala noted that she was in talks with the finance ministry to reconsider offering Apple a waiver from these local sourcing rules.
This announcement comes after Apple CEO Cook's maiden visit to India. On his four days stay in india, Cook met with several telecom heads and also India Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also announced an iOS design and development centre in Bangalore, Karnataka and a Maps Development Centre in Hyderabad, Telangana
