A transport plane of the Indian Air Force with 29 people on board went missing while flying from Chennai to Port Blair on Friday, The Russian-made AN-32 aircraft, which is believed to have disappeared over the Bay of Bengal, took off at 8.30am from Tambaram in Chennai.

The last contact with it was made 16 minutes later. The Coast Guard and IAF have launched operations to find the aircraft, which had six crew members on board. The aircraft was carrying service personnel to the strategic islands near the Malacca Straits, where India has a military base.

Multiple ships are searching for the Russian-made AN-32 aircraft, which last made contact 15 minutes after taking off in Chennai at 8.30 a.m. local time, IAF Cmdr. Anupam Banerjee said.

It is unfortunate that Indian navy plane(Russian) with 29 arm personals and crew are missing since Thursday, more military copters and other wherewithal put to press to surveillance service , but hitherto no result avail. It is apparent that plane may get accident and crash in deep seas. Nation is stand with bereaved family members to share grief in such contingency.

Hope all on board are safe and return safely to the base. I wonder how come any plane with politicians never go missing like this? Reason: Our politicians travel in latest jets. Whereas our defence personnel travel in age old air crafts. In this case, the aircraft is 1970 manufactured. That means 46 years old.
