The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Sri Jayalalithaa passed was away on December 5 at 11:30 pm in the night. Jayalalithaa was suffering from a cardiac from past few days, Jayalalitha had to be put on life support. And the nation mourns Amma along with the people of Tamil Nadu. Holidays were have been declared in several states across the country to mourn Jayalalithaa. She was 68, life virtually came to a grinding halt in Chennai as the city woke up to deserted streets with shops, including eateries, remaining shut. Such scenes were witnessed across Tamil Nadu. She was an enigma at a personal as well as at a political level.

Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent leaders of the nation have also reached Chennai to pay their last respects to Amma. And three deaths have been reported apparently due to shock and two cases of suicide attempts were reported from the district after the news of Jayalalithaa's worsen health spread last evening, police said today. Following Amma's passing her trusted O Panneerselvam was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state for the remainder of the term.
