As many as 39 people were injured as the bus they were travelling in collided with a truck on the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway here on Friday morning.

The injured were headed to Radha Soami Dera at Beas in a bus belonging to the dera.

The injured were rushed to Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences. Of these, 28 were discharged after giving them first aid while the remaining are undergoing treatment.

The truck driver fled the spot while police impounded the truck. No FIR was registered as the bus passengers did not file a complaint.

Jalandhar Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Pawan Kumar Tinu visited the injured at the hospital.

According to the passengers, the incident took place at 7.15 when the truck moving ahead of the bus took a sudden turn following which the bus driver lost control and rammed into the truck.

P Venkateswara Rao, Andhra Pradesh Cooperative Bank chairman and former minister was injured while his wife and driver were killed, their car overturned on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Tuesday, police said. The accident took place on the Outer Ring Road near Tukkuguda. Rao and his wife were returning to Hyderabad from Vijayawada when the driver lost control of the vehicle and it turned turtle. Police suspect that one of the rear wheels came off when the car was apparently running at a high speed. The vehicle hit the roadside railing and dragged on for over 60 yards. Rao’s wife Satyavani and driver Dasu were killed on the spot. The minister was taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to a corporate hospital in the city. Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the death of Rao’s wife. He enquired about the condition of Rao.

A flyover which is under construction in the eastern city of Kolkata was collapsed on thursday, killing at least 14 people and injuring others. Many people are feared trapped under the concrete and steel bridge, which fell on a busy road. Main issues for the incident was lack of inspections and the use of substandard materials have plagued construction projects in the country. The incident took place in an area near Girish Park, one of Kolkata's most densely populated neighborhoods, with narrow lanes, and shops and houses built close together. The 2km-long (1.2 mile) flyover has been under construction since 2009 and missed several deadlines for completion, Reuters news agency says.
As the rescue operation continues angry relatives arrive looking for their loved ones. At the same time, more bodies are being taken away. The army and national disaster agency in India have also joined the rescue operation.

Four people were killed when an auto rickshaw overturned in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district on Wednesday, police said.
The accident occurred early Wednesday near Kammavaripalem in Nellore district, a senior police official said.
The dead include three women and the driver of the auto rickshaw, the official said.
Two others were also injured in the accident.
