Exactly one year ago, India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni had announced his immediate retirement from Test cricket during India's tour to Australia.The Boxing Day Test at Melbourne last year, was Ranchi-born cricketer's last Test for India which ended in a draw. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 24 in his last innings when the match was called off.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the big news, which came as a huge shock to for his fans, via a press release which stated that strain of playing all the formats was the major reason behind his sudden decision.
It was a totally unexpected move as Dhoni was the skipper of the Test side, and despite India's poor performance overseas, he was expected to lead the side for the entire series.
With Dhoni’s sudden retirement, Virat Kohli went on to lead the final match at Sydney. In the traditional format of the game, Dhoni played 90 Tests, scored 4876 runs, 224 being his highest individual score.
Dhoni finished his Test career as India’s most successful Test skipper with 27 wins in 60 matches.Under Virat's captaincy, India won two consecutive Test series against Sri Lanka and South Africa this year, and are currently ranked No. 2 in ICC Test rankings.
