Mumbai Indians faced the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy stadium. Losing the early wicket of Parthiv Patel brought in, Mr. Dependable, Ambati Rayudu. He anchored the innings, to score a patient 44, which was the foundation of our chase. During his knock, Rayudu hit Varun Aaron for a huge six over the bowler’s head, which landed on the second tier of the stadium. The monstrous hit was 108 metres long, which was also the third longest six of this season.
Kieron Pollard who is celebrating his 29th birthday today, gifted himself a great win when he finished the match in style alongside Jos Buttler. His contributions have come at crucial junctures throughout this tournament whenever the team needs him. Pollard began this season with an injury, and has come a long way from there. Pollard joined the team in 2010, as the most expensive player in the IPL and had a big reputation and price tag to live up to. Cut to 2016, he is one of the most destructive batsmen in T20 cricket, and with him at one end; we can always be at ease.
The team bonds well, as they have stayed together a long time. It was certainly evident with Rayudu’s gesture to Pollard. The team celebrated Pollard’s birthday and the win back at the hotel where Rayudu had a special gift for the big man. He gifted him his bat and asked him to try and beat his longest six record. It will be interesting to watch Pollard in the next match when he walks out to the crease wielding Rayudu’s bat and hitting those monstrous sixes into the crowd.
Every MI fan will be waiting for the big man to take up this challenge and come out to smash opposing bowlers out of the park. Pollard’s devastating form is required for us to retain our trophy this season. With three matches to go in the league stage this will be the most electrifying phase of the season and at this crucial juncture our fans will hope that Polly wins the challenge and sets a benchmark every time he comes out to bat.
