Venkaiah Naidu (Union Minister) said Andhra Pradesh has steadily increased Air Passengers, the proposed extension of a runway will help meet this demand and also boost the developments in the region. The Current growth level of air passenger traffic in Andhra Pradesh lies at 61 % as against the average national figure of 17 %, Naidu said. 
Venkaiah Naidu said after laying the foundation stone for the runway extension at the airport in East Godavari District which involves a cost of around INR 187 Crores. 
Union Minister said Airport will play an important role in the industrial development coming up along the coast from Visakhapatnam to Chennai. This will also help in transportation of perishable goods from the region. 

Venkaiah said Aviation Sector has witnessed a remarkable growth in passenger traffic and praised Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu for reducing VAT on Aviation Turbine Fuel. He said an MoU has been signed among the Andhra Government, Civil Aviation Ministry and Airports Authority of India on inter connectivity of airports. There is a need to develop Visakhapatnam airport for international flights, he added.
