India and Russia are expected to
sign a pact on 15th October for the delivery of an advanced air
defence system to Delhi, according to sources. The S-400 missiles are Moscow's
most enlightened aircraft defence system. Yuri Ushakov (Russian Diplomat) said
the pact would be signed at a summit in Goa where Russian President Vladimir
Putin will hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India is hosting
a Brics summit in Goa this weekend involving Russia, Brazil, South Africa and
China. An pact on the delivery of S-400 'Triumph' anti-missile defence systems
and other deals will be signed as a result of the talks.
The S-400 surface to air missiles
have been positioned in Syria, where Russian forces have been operating in
support of the Government of President Bashar Al-Assad. India and Russia were
close knit during the Cold War, but recent the relationships are becoming more
complex.
