Today the country is celebrating its 68th Republic Day, marking the day which the country Constitution was adopted in 1950, with the prevailing grand parade in the country's capital and many other events. India's culture and military strength will be on display on colorful floats as a part of the annual parade at Rajpath, Delhi today. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, is the chief guest of honour of Republic Day parade. The UAE armed forces will also march with the Indian armed forces at the Republic Day parade in Delhi. The Navy, Indian Army, Air Force, artistes and performers across the nation will participate in parades in several parts of the country. President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders greeted the country on this occasion. The President will also present bravery and other awards to officers and soldiers who carried out the surgical strikes against staging areas for terrorists in POK last year. This year, India celebrates 68 years of being a republic. 

Constituent Assembly adopts 'The Constitution of India' on November 26, 1949 and came into effect on January 26, 1950. 26th January was chosen to be observed as the Republic day because it was on this day in 1930 when the 'Indian National Congress' declared Indian independence or Purna Swaraj from the British Government. India has the prolonged written Constitution in the world, with 448 articles in 22 Parts, 12 Schedules and 97 Amendments.
