Today the country is celebrating its 68th Republic Day, marking the day which the country Constitution was adopted in 1950, with the prevailing grand parade in the country's capital and many other events. India's culture and military strength will be on display on colorful floats as a part of the annual parade at Rajpath, Delhi today. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, is the chief guest of honour of Republic Day parade. The UAE armed forces will also march with the Indian armed forces at the Republic Day parade in Delhi. The Navy, Indian Army, Air Force, artistes and performers across the nation will participate in parades in several parts of the country. President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders greeted the country on this occasion. The President will also present bravery and other awards to officers and soldiers who carried out the surgical strikes against staging areas for terrorists in POK last year. This year, India celebrates 68 years of being a republic. 

 Constituent Assembly adopts 'The Constitution of India' on November 26, 1949 and came into effect on January 26, 1950. 26th January was chosen to be observed as the Republic day because it was on this day in 1930 when the 'Indian National Congress' declared Indian independence or Purna Swaraj from the British Government. India has the prolonged written Constitution in the world, with 448 articles in 22 Parts, 12 Schedules and 97 Amendments.

The Income Tax Department (IT) on Friday raided an Axis Bank account in Chandni Chowk, Central Delhi's and reportedly found about 44 fake accounts. According to the National Media IT officials said that about INR 100 Crores in old notes had been deposited in the accounts since November 8th i.e date of the announcement of demonetisation b y PM Narendra Modi. According to Media reports, a sum of total INR 450 Crores have been deposited in the Chandni Chowk Branch of Axis Bank since the ban was announced.

The IT officials said to the NDTV that these 44 fake accounts had been created by using forged documents, the investigators surmise that the money might have been dispel to buy gold. This was the second as such raid to have been reported at a branch of Axis Bank. Earlier in the last month IT officials had nabbed two people with INR 3.5 Crores of cash in new currency notes while they tried to come out of the Kashmere Gate branch, Central Delhi. Following the announcement of demonetisation scheme by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8th, the RBI had put palpable strict diminution regarding the sacking of the now extinct INR 500 and INR 1000 notes in bank accounts until December 30th.

After the price revision petrol in Delhi will now costs INR 66.45 Per litre and diesel will cost INR 55.38 Per litre. The Present level of international product prices of petrol, diesel and INR-USD exchange rate warrant increases in selling price of petrol and diesel, the impact was being passed on to the consumers, Indian Oil Corp (IOC) said in a statement. The Petrol and diesel prices are deregulated in India, which means they are directly linked to market rates. Prices were revised last on October 4th. The prices were increased following increase in commission paid to dealers.

Pakistan has cancelled for trade exhibition which was planned to be held next month in India, Amid heightened tension between the two neighbours in the sequel of the terror attack in Uri. Due to current situations between Pakistan and India which are beyond TDAP's control the event planned for 2016 has been called off, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) said in a statement on Friday. The third edition of Aalishaan Pakistan exhibition' was scheduled to be held in October in New Delhi. Reacting to the development, the Press Attache in Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi said, Yes the environment here is not conducive for such an event. We have seen in the past how right wing parties reacted to such Pakistan events. The latest move by MNS against Pakisthani artistes is a point in case. For the two countries, bilateral trade amounted to INR 206 billion during July-May of the last fiscal year, of which INR 42 billion was exported by Pakistan and INR 162 billion by India.The exhibition was meant to promote bilateral trade between the two countries and bring buyers and sellers together on one platform, the Express Tribune reported. Accordingly China on Friday continued to oppose India's entry to the NSG, by saying that global non-escalation order will collapse if New Delhi joined the group without being a signatory to the NPT. Beijing reiterated that accepting the Non Proliferation Treaty was a must for India to become a member of the elite 48-nation club which regulates global nuclear trade. The opposition to India joining the NSG has been forcefully led by China, which has said that admission to India cannot be allowed without also letting in Pakistan despite questions over its nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation for decades. The NSG, which was created in response to India's first nuclear test in 1974, is committed to preventing nuclear technology from being used for arms. A handful of countries that includes Brazil, Austria and Ireland have said that because India has not signed the Non-Proliferation treaty or NPT, it cannot be shown special preference despite the US openly urging just that.

Neither India nor Pakistan has signed the NPT, generally seen as a prerequisite to NSG membership. Government sources have said that of the 48 members of the NSG, 38 countries broadly backed India. The others said that before a decision can be taken on India, the nuclear bloc must first establish criteria that will be used equally for any applicants who have not signed the non-proliferation treaty.

Switzerland said that India's entry must be discussed in the context of these criteria. On Thursday, Japan raised the Indian issue. It was taken up at a special session though China had said that the membership of non-NPT countries would not be discussed at the plenary.

 Again Petrol price was raised on Wednesday by ₹5 paise per litre and diesel by ₹1.26, with immediate effect from midnight. In Delhi Petrol costs ₹65.65 per litre it was hiked  to ₹65.60 per litre presently, its announced by Indian Oil Corp. And the diesel will cost ₹55.19 per litre as against ₹53.93 a litre currently. This is fourth time of increase in auto fuel prices from May 1st.   Petrol rates in four hikes have been raised by ₹4.52 per litre, while diesel rates have gone up by ₹7.72 per litre. The present level of international product prices of petrol and diesel and Rupee-US Dollar exchange rate warrant. After discounting the April 16 reduction petrol prices have raised by ₹9.04 per litre since mid-March and diesel by ₹11.05 per litre. The movement of prices in international oil market and Rupee-USD exchange rate shall continue to be monitored closely and developing trends of the market will be reflected in future price changes,Indian Oil Corp said in an statement.

The Karnataka government has deemed Ola and Uber illegal for not complying with the licensing laws of the state and has ordered the aggregators to stop operations immediately. To get the necessary operator licenses, the companies needs to provide necessary information like driver verification, vehicle details and registration details to the Regional Transport Office (RTO).  As per the rules Ola and Uber will have to install GPS on the cabs and apps, According to the reports by Thetechportal during the past week 200 cabs of Ola and Uber were seized for not having operator licenses. Same was happened in Delhi where the cab operators have to get operator licenses to operate in the city. Previous month the government in the state had seized Ola and Uber cabs for continued cascade pricing. While Uber had removed cascade pricing in Delhi and need to do in Bangalore.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claims it has new documents to prove that Prime Minister Narendra Modi lied about graduating from the Delhi University and that a degree published by newspapers recently is "fake". The ruling BJP has said that the allegations are "too silly to respond to."
Yesterday, Arvind Kejriwal wrote to the Delhi University urging it to put up details of PM Modi's degree on its website for the public and make sure that the degree documents were "safe".

His party AAP alleges that such documents don't actually exist, that no "Narendra Damodar Modi" passed out of the university in 1978 as the PM had professed in his 2014 poll papers.



 The degree certificate published in some newspapers is 'fake', alleges AAP.

AAP says it has tracked down the degree certificate of a "Narendra Mahavir Modi" who passed out on the date of PM Modi's graduation.

"Narendra Mahavir Modi", says AAP, is from Alwar in Rajasthan. PM Modi, however, is from Vadnagar in Gujarat, the party says, citing his school certificates.

The Prime Minister's Office has not responded to AAP and Mr Kejriwal's attacks. In his declaration while contesting the 2014 national election, Mr Modi had said that he has a bachelor's degree from the Delhi University in 1978 and an MA degree from the Gujarat University in 1983. It tied in with a 15-year-old TV interview in which he said that he quit school when he left home at 17 and pursued his degrees much later at the insistence of his mentors in RSS or Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Treating Arvind Kejriwal's demand for details of the prime minister's education as an RTI inquiry, the Central Information Commission last week directed the Delhi University and Gujarat University to provide details. The Gujarat University has said Mr Modi did complete his masters and scored 62.3 per cent as an external student. The Delhi University has not given any details till now.

With the probe into the VVIP chopper scam focusing on bribes allegedly paid to Indians, the CBI has found two "suspicious" remittances in 2009 to the accounts of former IAF chief SP Tyagi, who had retired in 2007.

The agency is also learnt to have found that Tyagi is owner/shareholder in at least five companies. Top officials told TOI that the "body of evidence" is now focused on 'bribery', which is mentioned in the April 7 Italian court judgment.
"The statement given by S P Tyagi in 2013 to us is being matched with the facts highlighted in the judgment and there are many discrepancies in what he told us then and now," a senior CBI officer said.

Efforts to reach Tyagi for his comments on the issue were unsuccessful. In another development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is learnt to have checked the CCTV footage of a five-star hotel in central Delhi, where main middlemen Christian Michel largely stayed during his travels to India. Michel travelled to India about 100 times since 1993.

Apart from the hotel's CCTV footage and records to identify who all Michel met when the AgustaWestland contract was being discussed in the IAF and the defence ministry, the ED is also trying to ascertain the addresses Michel regularly visited in Delhi and NCR. His driver Narayan Bahadur is learnt to have told ED about his meeting places, including a farmhouse in south Delhi.
Investigators suspect that some 170 companies were formed in different countries by the alleged middlemen and accused persons to route the money to India. Three of Michel's companies alone are under the scanner.

It is also learnt that Michel paid for the foreign trips and luxury stays of two retired IAF officers. These two retired officials were questioned by the ED in 2014. The ED filed a criminal case last year under provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act in connection with alleged paybacks in the chopper deal which was cancelled by the government.

Meanwhile, an ED team is likely to visit Singapore soon. One of the companies used to transfer bribe funds in the web of companies was reportedly based in Singapore. A letter rogatory was sent there apart from 10 other countries, including Italy, Tunisia, Mauritius, the UK, British Virgin Islands and the UAE.

The process of discussing between India and France to buy 36 French Rafale fighter jets are almost cleared, said by defence ministry sources say that the price will be set at around $9 billion (approximately INR 65,000 crore). Both sides had hoped to wrap up the strategic order during President Francois Hollande’s visit for India’s Republic Day celebration in January, but hard bargaining on price stalled a final result. In last year April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced in Paris that India would buy the French fighter jets under a government-to-government deal, scrapping the original plan to buy 126 Rafales after commercial negotiations with plane-maker Dassault Aviation collapsed.

Presently India requires 45 fighter squadrons to encounter threat from China and Pakistan, but it has only 34 squadrons with about 18 planes each. And 14 of these squadrons are equipped with vintage MiG-21 and MiG-27 fighter planes.

Ashton Carter (US Defence Secretary) is at New Delhi. Ashton said that progress has been made towards sealing a deal that could see American soldiers on Indian bases under specific circumstances. Ashton has met with Manohar Parrikar, said India and US have agreed in principle to share military logistics. Washington and New Delhi have largely agreed to the terms of a new agreement that allows the two militaries to use each other's land, air and naval bases for re-supplies, repair and rest. But US troops can be in India only on the invitation of the government of India and the agreement isn't binding on either nation. India, as the world's largest arms importer, wanted access to US technology to develop weapons at home, which is a part of the PM Modi 'Make in India' campaign.
The US working with India to counter China's growth in South China Sea but has clarified that at the moment, it is not considering joint patrolling by an India-US fleet in the area. However, both sides will work closely together in the Indian Ocean, the two sides agreed.

Centre has said that 43-years-old law is not allowing to bring back antiquities which are taken out of the country before independence. According to the provisions of the Antiquities and Art Treasure Act, 1972, the Archaeological Survey considers the issue of retrieval of only such antiquities which have been illegally exported out of the country, it said. As the Kohinoor has been taken out of the country prior to the Independence, the Archaeological Survey of India is not in a position to process, the Culture Ministry said in reply to an RTI query filed by PTI.  The application was filed with External Affairs Ministry trying details of steps to be taken for return of Kohinoor along with a copy of a letter written to United Kingdom and also response received from the UK in this regard. 

The apex court was hearing Pacific International Lines (PIL), filed by All India Human Rights & Social Justice Front seeking directions to the High Commissioner of United Kingdom for return of the diamond besides several other treasures. The PIL has made Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Culture, High Commissioners of the UK, Pakistan and Bangladesh as parties to the case. It has also sought return of the 'ring and sword' of Tipu Sultan and other treasures of Tipu Sultan, Bahadur Shah Zafar, Rani Jhansi, Nawab Mir Ahmad Ali Banda and other rulers of India.

The University of Hyderabad as well as Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University are among the best universities in India, according to a survey of educational institutions commissioned by the government for the first time. These two universities ranked the best in the university category they figured among the top five. scientific institutes have been ranked better and others include engineering, management, and pharmacy. 
Smriti Irani released the 'India Rankings 2016' on Monday. Criteria for ranking based and included teaching, research, learning resources,graduation outcomes, inclusive, outreach and perception. The data for the first four parameters, which account for 90% of the weightage, and was submitted by the institutions, verified by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), a body constituted by the HRD ministry. More than 3,500 top higher educational institutions are under consideration for the ranking.

Gatiman Express which is india's fastest train will be launched on Tuesday, by opening a new chapter in the history of the Indian Railways. The inaugural run of Gatiman Express from Hazrat Nizammuddin, Delhi, to Agra Cantt, scheduled for 5th April, the Divisional Railway Manager's office said in a statement. Railway minister Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate the train at 10:00 am by remote from his office.
But its scheduled will be changed, making it to leave Nizammuddin railway station at 8.10am and reach Agra Cantt. at 9.50am, a run of 100 minutes instead of 90 as initially planned. The train has 12 AC coaches, hostesses in each compartment, free Wi-Fi facility,automatic doors, and several other facilities to offer a comfortable train journey in specially designed coaches. The train's fare will be more than Shatabadi Express. It will run six days a week except Friday, when the Taj Mahal is closed.

A team of five Pakistani police and intelligence officials arrived india on Sunday to probe the January-2 terror attack at the Pathankot air base in Punjab. The team will travel to Pathankot,Punjab on Tuesday and will question witnesses, according to the sources. Indian officials  said that the Pakistani team will be given a limited access to the Indian airbase where at least seven military personnel were killed after an attack with a gun and bomb by Pakistani terrorists. One civilian was also killed in the attack on the sprawling 2,000-acre complex. This is for the first time New Delhi has allowed Pakistani investigators to probe a terror attack in India blamed on that country. The access was granted as India hoped that Pakistan will bring to justice the alleged perpetrators, including Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar.
Indian investigators believes that Azhar who was released after the Indian Airlines IC 814 hijacking in 1999 is the masterminded the Pathankot attack. India had blamed JeM militants for the assault on the IAF base in Pathankot in Punjab on January 2, which triggered two days of gunbattle that left seven Indian security personnel dead.

BJP chief Amit Shah’s while addressing at the party’s National Executive meeting he asserted that it will not tolerate criticism against the country and that freedom of expression cannot be a plea for shouting anti-national slogans. Shah attacked Congress by saying its main focus was to ensure that the Modi dispensation does not perform, as he hailed the government for providing corruption-free governance and dynasty-free leadership and giving stability and hope to people.

Hitting out at the Left and Congress for their criticism of the government over freedom of expression, he said wryly that supporters of Maoism and Stalin were talking about it and recalled the Emergency execesses to target the main opposition party. In JNU, slogans were raised to destroy India. Rahul Gandhi went there and said nothing about these slogans but instead tried to justify them on the ground of freedom of expression. BJP welcomes any criticism of the party, person or government, but it will not tolerate criticism of the country. While BJP fully respects freedom of expression, patently anti-national activity cannot be justified on the plea of freedom of expression. It is plainly not acceptable, Shah said. On the row over 'Bharat mata ki jai' he said a large number of people sacrificed their lives shouting this slogan, which is older than BJP and RSS. It was unfortunate that a controversy over it had occured so many years after independence, he added. He had receny said 99 per cent of people are in support of raising the slogan and his party will convince the remainder.
