Jana Sena party leader Pawan Kalyan in Twitter diatribe pointed the NDA led government over the issue of patriotism. Kalyan took an deviation to the SC order, which made compulsory of playing the national anthem at all cinema theatres across the country. Kalyan questioned that to whom he should show his patriotism and why the film theatres are twirl for testing one's love for the country. 'True patriotism will come into experience when an individual or political party goes beyond caste, class, creed, region, religion, ethic n linguistic differences, Kalyan posted in his Twitter page.

Pawan added 'Patriotism cannot be seen through as one party's perspective or ideals. The meaning of true 'Patriotism' is deeply rooted in human value and it is holistic nature. He also tweeted that  'In a democracy, differing with the ruling party's opinion cannot be labelled as anti-national. Even if they want to take such extreme view about their opponents, first let them hear out ..with out stifling their voice, then take the needed action. In haste, if they take any action it will only backfire as it did.. in 'JNTU' students sedition case and it was proven that the tape was doctored. He pointed out that, 'A simple evening to spend time with family and friends to watch a movie has been made into a testing ground to prove one’s patriotism,  kalyan added.

Irani said Wednesday she is taking Rohith Vemula's death personally because he was used as a "political tool." She also told her Lok Sabha critics, "I challenge you to ask my caste."

For the second straight day, HRD Minister Smriti Irani made a strong defence of the government's actions on Thursday with regard to JNU issue and suicide of Dalit student in Hyderabad university in the face of intense attack by the opposition which alleged that attempts were being made to suppress dissent.

Here is the full speech of Smriti Irani in Lok Sabha:

Irani, who was ballistic in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, was comparatively mellowed down in the Rajya Sabha as she replied to questions raised on her performance as also that of the HRD Ministry under her.

She said she had been "rightly" advised by someone to be calm.

Her reply to a short duration discussion, however, was cut short as the House was abruptly adjourned after uproar over her certain comments which she made while alleging that some elements in JNU had published derogatory pamphlets about Goddess Durga.

As she narrated the descriptive details of the pamphlets, Anand Sharma of Congress took objection, saying it could set a precedent and in future somebody else could repeat it with regard to Gods of other religions.

"What is happening here? This is too much. It's a dangerous precedent. Every religious leader and deity has been derogatorily referred by some persons. Will all this be discussed here? Can we allow it here. Then there will be a war in the House," Sharma said.

Irani insisted with her reference, saying it was imperative to counter the charge levelled against her.

Responding to objections, deputy chairman PK Kurian said she has authenticated what she had said. "What can I do?" he said.

With the opposition remaining unrelenting, he adjourned the House till Friday.

THE NDA government has told the Supreme Court that the country does not have to be called ‘Bharat’ instead of ‘India’.
Responding to a PIL seeking a declaration that the Republic be called ‘Bharat’ for official and unofficial purposes by Union and state governments, the Centre claimed “there is no change in circumstances to consider any change in Article 1 of the Constitution of India.” Article 1(1) says, “India, that is Bharat, shall be a Union of States.” This is the only provision in Constitution on how this country be called for official and unofficial purposes.
Submitting its affidavit recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said issues regarding the country’s name were deliberated upon extensively by the Constituent Assembly during drafting of the Constitution and clauses in Article 1 were adopted unanimously. It further argued that the name ‘Bharat’ did not figure in the original draft of the Constitution and it was during debates that the Constituent Assembly considered names such as Bharat, Bharatbhumi, Bharatvarsh, India that is Bharat, Bharat that is India and Bharat as is known in English language India. It said there was no change in circumstances since the Constituent Assembly debated the issue to warrant a review.
A representation by the PIL petitioner’s advocate Ajay G Majithia, the MHA said, had been examined and the plea now deserves to be dismissed.
Petitioner Niranjan Bhatwal, a social activist, had filed a PIL last year but the top court asked him to wait till his representation is decided upon by the government. After the government refused, he filed a fresh PIL and a bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu sought reply from Centre and state governments in April.
Majithia had said Article 1.1 must be interpreted keeping in view Constituent Assembly’s intention, “which wanted to name the country Bharat”. The plea said ‘India’ was coined during colonial era and the country, historically and in scriptures, is called Bharat. “India was used in Article 1 for reference, in order to repeal Government of India Act, 1935, and Indian Independence Act, 1947,” the petition said.
