Pradesh, hundreds of women lied on the ground in a line to be walked over by 'gods'.
Women take part in this peculiar rite as they believe that this will clinch
their wish of having children. Every year on Ekadashi, the womens who don't
have children come to Lakshmi Narasimha Swami temple in Baktarapalli village of
Anantapur district.
Local people says that the
tradition has been passed on for generations and many say their wishes have
been fulfilled.

Three women Bhawana Kanth, Avani Chaturvedi,and
Mohana Singh were been commissioned as India's women fighter
pilots. Upon completion of successful
training at the Air Force Academy, Hyderabad they were officially commissioned into Indian Air Force by Manohar Parrikar (Defence Minister). The women, who broke hurdle to
inscribe their names in history of the Indian Air Force, will get to fly
fighter jets like Sukhoi and Tejas next year after completion of stage-III
training at Bidar, Karnataka.

Maneka Gandhi (Union Minister for Women and Child Development) has announced that the marital rape in India can not be criminalised considering majority of factor ruling the nation like poverty, illiteracy and religious beliefs. Gandhi confirmed this in a written statement to the Rajya Sabha, while saying that it is not feasible for the government to criminalise martial rape. Minister while answering to a question on whether the modi government plans to criminalise marital rape, said in her written reply in Rajya Sabha, “It is considered that the concept of marital rape, as understood internationally, cannot be suitably applied in the Indian context due to various factors like level of education/ illiteracy, poverty, myriad social customs and values, religious beliefs, mindset of the society to treat the marriage as a sacrament, etc. Recently, noted lawyer Indira Jaising submitted a report in the Supreme Court regarding the definition of marital rape and had sought to criminalise under the various sections of IPC, but the Union government’s stuck to it’s old stand of not decriminalising it. According to the report, Jaising had recommended that exception 2 of Section 375 (under which any form of intercourse by a man with his wife who is more than 15 should be abolished). The report further recommended that all the cases should be brought under Section 375, in order to define the Extended definition of Rape.

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly today unanimously has passed a resolution requesting the Centre to enact the Women's Reservation Bill providing 33 % reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures. Andhra Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, has made a special statement in the House on the occasion of International Women's Day proposed the resolution and it was adopted unanimously. This has been a long pending demand on International Women's Day, we shall request the Centre to enact the women's reservation bill and give women their due, Chandra Babu said while making the statement. He listed out the various initiatives of his government aimed at empowerment of women. Mean while YSRCP chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy sought to ridicule the Chandra Babu statement saying the Govt had no respect for women. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that nation is always empowered by its women. It is she who nurtures a citizen as a mother, as a sister in his childhood, and later in the life as a wife. These empowered citizens eventually make an empowered country, said while addressing the National Women Legislators Conference. Women representatives from both the houses of parliament, state legislative assemblies and councils are attending the two day conference that began on Saturday. Multitasking is a specialty in managerial world. But our women are the best on the earth in handling numerous tasks at a time.
Our women have been multitasking since ages and their efforts have contributed a lot in bringing our country at this level, the prime minister added. Women have higher success ratio despite the fewer opportunities they get in comparison to men. Women needs to recognise themselves, their strength and feel confident about it, Modi said giving an example of Rwanda, the civil-war torn country, that was brought back to its feet by women.
