Nun Amala, 69, was found murdered in her convent at Pala in Kottayam on last Thursday morning.

A youth, who is prima facie identified as the alleged accused in the murder of a Catholic nun in Kerala, was taken into custody in Uttarakhand.

Police sources in Kerala said the alleged accused Sathish Babu alias Sathish Nair, 38, was nabbed by Uttarakhand police from a guest house for pilgrims at Haridwar on Wednesday night. A team of Kerala police have left for Haridwar to complete the formalities before bringing him back to the state.

Nun Amala, 69, was found murdered in her convent at Pala in Kottayam on last Thursday morning. Another inmate of the convent had told the police that she had seen a stranger at the convent premises on the previous night. Besides, another nun in the same convent had sustained grave injuries a few days before the murder of Amala. However, the convent authorities did not complain that matter to police.

The other day police had released the photographs of the suspected person, identified as Sathish Babu, a native of Kasargode.

Police claimed that Babu had been involved in several criminal cases in the past and had a habit of targeting elderly persons and convents. There were a few minor incidents of attacks on other convents in Kottayam in the recent months, which police have attributed to Babu.
