Police arrested Kapu leader and Mudragada Padmanabham (Former minister) few hours after on indefinite fast over reservation for his community. Police laid a blockade around his house in Kirlampudi in East Godavari district from morning, picked
him up and shifted him to a hospital in Rajahmundry in an ambulance. Due to rumors doing rounds that
Padmanabham had consumed pesticides at the time of the arrest, police shifted
him to hospital. Few of his supporters were also
arrested for trying to prevent police from shifting him. When police officers said they received orders for his arrest. The Kapu leader asked to produce an arrest warrant.
Madragada locked himself
inside the room and shown a bottle containing pesticides through the window
to the police and imperial to consume it if he was arrested. Madragada alleged that the Telugu
Desam Party (TDP) has gone back on its assurance to withdraw cases booked in
connection with the violence during Kapu protest at Tuni in January. The TDP government said it was
working to fulfill the promise it has formed a panel to take steps for including the community in
backward classes.
