According to the
sources state government of Karnataka has decided to go against the Supreme
Court's orders on the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu State. The order specifies
that Karnataka to release 6,000 Cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu per day from
September 21 to September 27. While it is wretched that a state government
decided to ignore a judicial order, this also calls into question the role of
the Supreme Court in the matter. The former secretary of the Union Ministry Ramaswamy
S Iyer of Water Resources and an expert on the matter made the carping that Supreme
Court was hearing the Cauvery dispute in the first place. According to Iyer,
Article 262 in the Constitution is clear that the courts had no role to play in
this matter and decisions would be taken by the Parliament.
