Pakistani Hindus staying in India on a Long Term Visa (LTV), will soon allowed to buy property, open bank account and enroll for PAN and Aadhaar cards, the BJP Government planning to roll out special facilities for them. Among other concessions the government offered them reduction in fees for registration as citizens of India from INR 15,000 to as low as INR 100. As per rough official estimates there are around two lakh such people, mostly Hindus and Sikhs. There are around 400 Pakistani Hindu refugee settlements in cities like Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Raipur, Kutch, Rajkot, Bhopal, Mumbai, Indore, Nagpur, Lucknow, Pune and Delhi. The central government has been constantly reviewing the hardships being faced by the minority communities in Pakistan staying in India on LTV. To ease some of their difficulties, it is proposed to provide the facilities,” a notification issued by the Home Ministry says.

The Narendra Modi government came to power in May-2014, several steps were taken including issuance of LTV for these refugees have been initiated. In September 2015, the government had allowed minority refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh to stay even after expiry of their visas on humanitarian grounds.

Andhra Pradesh Human Rights Commission(HRC) has issued a notice to Apparao Podile, Hyderabad who is being investigated in the case filed over the death of Rohith Vemula. A Complaint was filed by Namrata Jaiswal and Ramu Goud of the Telangana AAP. AAP has approached the commission when the non-teaching staff began to protest the vandalism of university property by boycotting their duties.
They said that the UoH authorities had closed all the hostel messes, which affected over 5,000 students, leaving them with no water and food. They wrote that the varsity administration also barred media from entering the institution’s premises and cut of Internet connectivity.
The main complaint of the AAP members: 

  • The University of Hyderabad authorities have shut down the messes which is affecting over 5000 students. No food and water too.
  • The UoH authorities are not allowing media inside the campus. All the above violations are leading to great suffering and blatant violation of human rights.
  • The authorities even cut down internet connections for the students and the faculty.

A three day Commonwealth regional seminar improve the abilities of parliamentarians to promote and protect human rights in Asia the decision was taken by the Parliament of Sri Lanka to host from tomorrow. The seminar will reportedly take place from Feb 1st to 3rd
Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe will deliver the keynote address during the opening of the seminar. The CPA (Commonwealth Secretariat and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association) , in collaboration with the CPA Sri Lanka Branch, are jointly convening the seminar for Asia, India and South-East Asia Legislatures and will focus on ‘strengthening the role of Parliamentarians in the promotion and protection of human rights’. 
The Focus of Parliamentarians in these three days will be their relationship with the international human rights system including the work of the Human Rights Council and its Universal Periodic Review mechanism.
