After a day of cyclone 'Vardah' exhausted ruination in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, it has escort showers in the district on Tuesday. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) there would be heavy rainfall in Ernakulam in the next 48 hours. IMD forecasts ceaseless heavy rains at night. On Monday, the temperature was around 32°C but on Tuesday it came down to 22.6°C. In the next two days the minimum temperature is anticipated to be as low as 22°C - 25°C and the maximum temperature would be around 30-32°C.


It is generally cloudy with one or two augur of rain or thunder showers, said by IMD. Fishermen are warning not to adventure in sea. The strong winds from south easterly direction (with a speed 4555 kms/hr) are likely along and off Kerala coast till 2 PM on Wednesday .

On the Occasion of Mahatma Gandhi birth anniversary celebrations at Tirupati, AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu counseled the people to become 'Swachhagrahis' to create the nation free from poor sanitation in the spirit of 'Satyagrahis' who had won freedom for the nation under the leadership role of the Mahatma Gandhi.  Chandra Babu said that an amount of INR 186 Crores has been sanctioned for Andhra Pradesh for schemes of solid waste management in urban areas.  The Chief Minister has released a postal stamp on 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' and a book on 'In the Footsteps of Mahatma: Gandhi and Sanitation'.

A overall number of 180 Cities and Towns in Gujarat and 110 cities and towns in Andhra Pradesh were declared free from open defecation. So far, 405 cities and towns are said to have become free from open defecation along with 20,000 of the 82,000 urban wards in the country. Additional 334 cities and towns were covered to end the open defecation practice by March 2017. Kerala, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh and other North-Eastern states are on course to reveal all urban areas as 'Open defecation Free' shortly.

Monsoon reaches several parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema region also expected to in other parts of the state in coming one or two days, according sources of IMD. The Monsoon hit Kerala on wednesday same will cover parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh up to Anantapur in Rayalaseema. The remaining parts of Andhra Pradesh are expected to be covered in coming one or two days and neighboring state Telangana is expected to be covered in coming four or five days, according to IMD. Rains are expected in entire Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, southern parts of Konkan and Goa. Clouds also hung over many parts of Andhra Pradesh and Interior Karnataka have checked into Telangana and East Maharashtra. Today Satellite pictures in the after-noon showed clouds covering most parts of Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu, Dindigul, Kodaikanal, Kumbakonam, Tiruchi, in the South Udupi, Mangaluru, Goa, Murdeshwar and Ratnagiri on the West Coast.

IMD in its daily weather report for Andhra Pradesh said rain occurred at many places over Rayalaseema and at a few places over coastal Andhra Pradesh. Jammalamadugu and Punganur in Rayalaseema received 7 cm of rainfall.  And daily weather report for Telangana rain occurred at a few places over the state. Madnur in Nizamabad district recorded 8 cm of rainfall, followed by Jukkal in Nizamabad with 7 cm of rainfall.

Voting has ended in Tamil Nadu and Kerala states where BJP is trying to a gain a foothold. Polls were also held in the Pondicherry. More than 80 million voters eligible to cast ballots in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.Regional parties were dominated in Tamil Nadu, while Communists are trying comeback in Kerala. Polls have already been held in West Bengal and Assam in this April and May. All the votes will be counted on Thursday. Shortly before polls closed turnout was put at 69 % in Tamil Nadu while Kerala recorded 70 %.

Elections were held in 30 seats in Pondicherry where Chief Minister N Rangaswamy embrace breakaway Congress party workers, is seeking re-election. In Tamil Nadu State polling was held in 232 seats, the BJP is seen as having little chance against the regional Parties AIADMK and DMK who are locked in a vicious contest. The DMK is trying to grab power from the rival AIADMK party. The BJP is trying to secure a toehold in Kerala which has been ruled by either Congress led governments or a  bloc of left-wing parties. Last week Prime Minister Narendra Modi comparison of Kerala with Somalia on infant mortality rates angered politicians and social media users.

The fire started about 03:30 (22:15 GMT Saturday) when an explosion was set off in a store of fireworks ready for celebrations of a local Hindu new year festival, local media reports say. A building at the temple then collapsed, causing many of the fatalities. More than 200 are injured.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is travelling to the scene.

He tweeted that the accident was "heart-rending and shocking beyond words".

Those with most serious burns injuries are being treated at the government medical college in Thiruvananthapuram, the state capital. The impact of the blast was felt in houses up to a kilometre away.

"Huge pieces of concrete were flying through the air. Chunks landed in our yard," said resident Jayashree Harikrishnan.

Kerala's Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has ordered in an investigation into the accident.
"The temple holds an annual firework display every year. We're doing our best to rescue those still trapped," said Mr Chennithala.

"Now the situation is under control... the police are on the spot."

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is also due to visit the scene this morning.

The fireworks had been stored ready for celebrations on Thursday of Vishu, a Keralan festival marking the Hindu new year.

Local reports say that police had not given permission for Puttingal temple to hold the fireworks display.

The police are reportedly taking action against the temple administration and the contractors who were putting on the firework display.

Fireworks and firecrackers are commonly used at temple festivals and other public events and accidents are not uncommon.

Election Commission has given its nod to modi's 'Mann ki Baat' a radio broadcast on Sunday. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry had approached the commission to clear the broadcast of the monthly radio address due to Model Code. Sources said that the Commission gave its green signal to the address on wenesday with instructions that the Model Code should not be violated. Nothing should be said which influences or impacts the voters of the five poll-bound states. These are the instructions which have been given while clearing the address.
West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry are going to polls beginning April 4. The Model Code came into force on March 4 when the polls were announced by the Commission.

For infrastructure development, the Indian Railways on wednesday signed MoUs with Andhra Pradesh and Kerala governments for formation of joint venture companies to ensure faster implementation of rail projects in the respective states. The JV companies will have 51% stake of the respective state governments and 49% stake of the railways. It is always necessary to have partnership with state governments and we have declared it in our Rail Budget, said Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu at the MoU signing ceremony here. In view of the growing demands for railway lines in various states and huge requirement of funds to execute them, JV companies will be now responsible for identifying projects, land acquisition and possible financing in addition to government funding and also monitoring.

Kerala Governor Justice P Sathasivam on Tuesday night missed an Air India flight from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram after the pilot allegedly refused to wait for him to board the flight.

While the Governor reached the airport around 11.28 pm after attending functions in Kozhikode and Thrissur, the flight took off at 11.32 pm. He left for Thiruvananthapuram by road on Wednesday.

Air India Kochi manager Patric Xavier said: “We were informed about the Governor’s journey. The flight from Delhi to Thiruvananthapuram via Kochi was scheduled to reach Kochi at 9.15 pm, but it landed in Kochi at 10.58 pm. The pilot said passengers would protest if the flight was further delayed.’’

When the bill is enacted into a law, the state would have hotel food price regulatory boards at all districts, which would be headed by a district judge or a law officer of similar rank.


Kerala Government would set up district level price regulatory authority for restaurants. The cabinet on Wednesday ratified the Kerala Hotel (Food Price Regulation) Bill 2015 which envisages formation of regulatory authority for grading eateries and fixing food prices.


Accordingly, when the bill is enacted into a law, the state would have hotel food price regulatory boards at all districts, which would be headed by a district judge or a law officer of similar rank. Except hotels in star and heritage categories, all eateries would come under the regulatory board.


As per the bill, all eateries would have to register with the regulatory authority, which would fix the prices of the food items. Hotels would be allowed to increase the food prices only after a formal consent from the authority, which would have the power to slap fine on eateries charging for items above the notified prices. The decisions of the authority could not be questioned in a civil court, but aggrieved parties can appeal with state food commission.

 Kerala Government's official website has been hacked by "suspected Pakistan-based hackers". 

The Cyber cell police are probing into the incident, which is suspected to have occurred last night. 

State government's official website 'www.keralagov.in' has been hacked by Pakistan-based hackers and efforts were on a war footing to restore it, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said. 

Chennithala said that once Kerala police's proposed 'cyber dome facility' becomes functional, state government will be able to take necessary precautionary measures. 

"Such instances of hacking have taken place all over the world. Once the state police's proposed cyber dome facility at Technopark here becomes functional, security auditing of all government websites will be carried out and we will be able to take all precautionary measures," he said in a Facebook post.
