Pew Research Center, an American think tank, released its findings of its recent survey in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains the most popular figure in Indian politics which is conducted among 2,464 respondents in India. Modi stood at 88%, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi 58%, Congress president Sonia Gandhi 57% and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal 39%, said the survey conducted between February 21 and March 10 this year. Pew said the public's 'positive assessment' of Modi is invigorate by 'growing contentment' with the Indian economy more than 8/10 says economic conditions are 'good', up by 19 % points since immediately before the 2014 election. The share of adults who say the economy is very good (30%) has tripled in the past three years, it added.

According to Pew, at least 9 in 10 Indians in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh hold a favorable view of the prime minister. And more than 8 in 10 in the states of Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Prades and Punjab. Notably, the survey reflects a 21% points drop in favorable view of America among Indians from 70% in 2015 to just 49% in 2017.

Finally The Indian National Congress Party admitted that Rahul Gandhi meet with Luo Zhaohui (Chinese ambassador) . And also conceded that Mr Gandhi also met with Bhutanese envoy and ex-NSA Shiv Shankar Meno. The Congress Party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala, who had strongly denied with media reports about the meetings, made a u-turn and admitted. Sujewala added that many ambassadors and envoys keep on meeting time to time with Congress president and vice-president. While addressing a press conference Manish Tewari Congress leader slammed those who were targeting the party over the meeting. Mr Tewari added what ministers Prakash Jawdekar, JP Nadda and minister of culture were doing in China when Prime Minister met Chinese Premier at G-20.

Rahul Gandhi said that it is his job to be informed on critical issues as he sought to defend his meeting with the Chinese ambassador amid a border row with China. He also took a dig at Narendra Modi saying he was not like the prime minister who was 'sitting on the swing' when Chinese soldiers were entering India.

 Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that the GST Bill will be passed in Parliament in 'in just 15 minutes' with Congress support if the 'BJP' govt accepted conditions laid down by them, when he was speaking to students of NMIMS, in Mumbai in reply to a student’s question, he said that 'We don’t want a GST Bill where there is no cap on taxes. We want a limitation on the maximum tax people can be charged with'.The dispute between the ruling party and the Opposition party(Congress) is not just the demand for a constitutional cap on the GST median rate, as it is called, but also two other conditions put forward by the Congress.

The GST Bill has been approved by Lok Sabha, but is stuck in Rajya Sabha, where the BJP does not have a majority. The Congress has demanded withdrawal of an additional 1% on inter-state movement of goods, which has been proposed to provide comfort to manufacturing states that fear a loss of revenue. Congress has also demanded a dispute resolution panel headed by a Supreme Court judge. Stating that the GST legislation was conceptualised by congress for seven years, Arun Jaitley(Finance Minister) didn’t allow it to pass. Even Narendra Modi, when he was chief minister of Gujarat didn’t allow it to pass. The BJP blocked everything. It has never been the strategy of the Congress to block Parliament.

Rahul said this government doesn’t believe in a conversation, adding that a compromise on GST was possible. It is sitting on the table. But the government is not taking it. Work is yet to begin on the necessary infrastructure that can make GST work.

HC dismisses Sonia, Rahul’s pleas against summons; BJP hails decision. In a major blow to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi, the Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed their plea to quash the summons issued by trial court in the National Herald case.  

Observing that the conduct of Congress office-bearers named in the National Herald case “smacks of criminality”, the Delhi High Court dismissed Monday appeals filed by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, vice president Rahul Gandhi and five others against summons to face trial.

Hours after the bench of Justice Sunil Gaur turned down the pleas for exemption from personal appearance in the case in the trial court, where it is listed Tuesday, a stunned Congress said it will approach the Supreme Court Tuesday morning against the High Court order. The trial court is likely to issue a date for personal appearances of all accused.

The Gandhis and five others — Suman Dubey, Moti Lal Vohra, Oscar Fernandes, Sam Pitroda and Young India Ltd (YI) — had challenged the trial court summons on a complaint by BJP’s Subramanian Swamy against them for alleged cheating and misappropriation of funds in taking control of the now-defunct National Herald newspaper.

Dismissing their appeals, the High Court bench, in a 27-page judgment, noted that YI was a “special purpose vehicle” created by the Congress leaders and the “questionable conduct of the petitioners needs to be properly examined to find out the truth”.

The bench questioned the need for shifting the interest-free loan of Rs 90.25 crore extended to Associated Journals Limited (AJL), publisher of National Herald, to Young India Limited (YI) for Rs 50 lakh. The court observed that the modus operandi depicted “criminal intent”.

“Where was the need of extending interest-free loans to a public limited company engaged in a commercial venture of publishing newspapers,” the judge said, adding that allegations raised by complainant Swamy would need to be examined in detail at the stage of framing of charges against the accused.

“Even writing off such a huge debt by the Congress party can legitimately attract allegations of cheating, fraud, etc. Petitioners had gone a step further in conspiring to get this huge debt assigned to a special purpose vehicle i.e. YI and thereafter, to hijack AJL via YI. Such grave allegations levelled against petitioners cannot be brushed aside lightly by relying upon judicial precedents cited, to conclude that the ingredients of the criminal offences alleged are lacking. To say the least, to do so would be preposterous.”

“Such a prima facie view is being taken in view of the fact that the assignment of the huge debt by Congress party to YI was for a paltry sum of 50 lacs. This is certainly questionable and justifiably attracts the allegations of cheating, misappropriation, criminal breach of trust, etc,” the bench said.

The bench also dismissed the argument of locus standi raised by the Congress leaders, observing that the case involved allegations of siphoning of party funds which were under the control of party office-bearers.

“It will not be fair to literally interpret Section 39 of CrPC or to assert that a private citizen is free to proceed against corrupt public servants but not against a political party when it is accused of serious offences of cheating, misappropriation, etc. In a unique case like the instant one, expanded meaning to the law has to be given.”

“In the considered opinion of this court, the plea of locus standi cannot be restricted to typical cases of cheating,misappropriation, etc, as here is a case where the act of office-bearers of a political party having criminal overtones is under scrutiny,” the bench said.
Speaking to The Indian Express outside the High Court, Swamy said he would be filing a caveat before the Supreme Court so that he would be heard if the Congress leaders were to challenge the order in the apex court.

Announcing it would move the Supreme Court, the Congress called Swamy’s complaint part of the “BJP’s petty vendetta politics”.The development threatens to deteriorate already frosty ties between the government and the main opposition party in the middle of a crucial Parliament session. Short of majority in the Upper House where key bills are stuck, the government has reached out to the Congress with Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself inviting the Congress president to his residence for tea to break the parliamentary deadlock over GST. And the Congress had responded positively.

Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi said: “We were surprised at a judgment delivered in the afternoon, dismissing the petition in the so-called National Herald case. Surprised because the matter was not notified for judgment as is the usual practice in the cause list of the High Court but by telephonic intimation it was informed that around 11-11.30 am that judgment will be delivered in the afternoon.”

“We intend to challenge the order because we have very substantive legal grounds and we believe that a dismissal of our quashing petition is legally unsustainable,” Singhvi said. He hoped the protection given by the High Court earlier to the Gandhis will continue till a proper analysis of the order is done and a proper legal challenge mounted.

Congress communication department head Randeep Surjewala said the Congress does not view the judgment as a setback.

“In the long course of its political journey, Congress has faced many such cases sponsored by its political opponents… No attempts to malign the leadership of Congress party through doctored cases will deter us to fight and expose the anti-people policies of the present government. In fact, our resolve to raise people’s issues gets strengthened with every such attack by incredulous agents of the BJP government,” Surjewala said.

In a major embarrassment, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's question on whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious "Clean India" campaign is working or not was met with a resounding 'yes' on Wednesday.

During an interaction with students of Mount Carmel college, a leading women's college here, the Congress vice-president took an instant poll asking the young audience about the twin flagship programmes while slamming the Modi government 

Gandhi asked the students whether 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' ('Clean India Mission') was working, to which most replied in a resounding 'yes'. 

It didn't end here as the Congress MP again asked the students if they thought the 'Make in India' programme was really working and the students again gave the same reply, making the leader apparently uncomfortable. 

Gandhi hastened to tell the audience that he differed with them. 

"You might see it I don't," said Gandhi, who sported a grey T-shirt, adding,"Anyway, I don't clearly see a vision that the BJP is projecting". 

The interaction was the first in the series of Gandhi's outreach to the students across the campuses in the country. 

Rahul later talking to reporters said the nature of the response of the students to his questions were not clear. 

"Actually it was not clear. On 'Swachh Bharat', half the room said nothing had happened and some said something had happened. On 'Make in India', I think more people said not much had happened, some said things have happened". 

The kind of response by the students to Rahul's poser led BJP to say his "disconnect" with the ground was "exposed" and shown through the mirror by the youths of the country. 

"When asked about Swachh Bharaat Abhiyan and Make in India, the youths of this country said that these concepts are moving ahead and Rahul was shocked. Why was he shocked? Because of the very fact that he has a great disconnect, he does not know the vibrations on the ground. Leave aside the country, he cannot lead the youths of the country," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said.

He said Rahul has "no capacity" to lead even the youths not to speak of the country. "His ignorance was snubbed by the young students," he said.

BJP secretary Sidharth Nath Singh said Gandhi's interaction with students at Bengaluru should caution Congress Party and leadership that Indian youth is not willing to accept "obstructionist and negative" agenda of Congress. 

"The snap poll done by Rahul Gandhi is a good indicator that PM Modi's initiative like 'Swachh Bharat', 'Make in India' and others have strong support of the youth. It was quite heartening to learn that Indian youth had straight questions on why GST and other reforms are being blocked. 

"We hope Rahul Gandhi and Congress would learn from the interaction that Indian Youth want Parliament to function and therefore they would not disturb the winter session," he said. 

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, however, said Gandhi answered questions unlike Prime Minister Modi and this is the way for the country's leader to interact. 

"This is the way, the leader of the country should interact with the young and the countrymen everywhere — sometimes disagreeing with them, sometimes agreeing with them and aswering their basic inquisitiveness on how India should look in 5 years, 10 years and 20 years. Rahul ji has answered, what no other political leader has done.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Monday alleged that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had been the director of a company in Britain and he had declared himself as a British citizen.

Accusing Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi of declaring himself a British citizen to float a firm in that country, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has written to PM Modi, demanding that the Congress MP should be stripped of his Indian citizenship as well as his parliamentary membership. The Congress has, however, dismissed Swamy’s charge.

“I wrote to PM Modi on November 12, asking him to initiate steps to cancel Rahul’s citizenship and will ask Lok Sabha Speaker to appoint a committee or direct the committee on ethics to cancel his Lok Sabha membership,” Swamy said at a specially-convened press conference.

However, the Congress termed the allegations false and said the dirty tricks department of the BJP was resorting to “petty and mindless mud-slinging” as it was “frustrated by its humiliating defeat in Bihar and internal revolt brewing amongst the seniormost leadership”.

In his letter to the PM Modi, Swamy alleged that Rahul had floated a company called Backops Limited in 2003 in the UK, and in the annual return form, he had declared himself to be of British nationality with a UK address. Rahul also held 65 per cent of the total shares issued by this company, Swamy claimed.

“Same facts were repeated, viz, that Mr Rahul Gandhi as having British nationality in the annual returns filed on Oct 31, 2006 as well,” the letter said.

“No MP can incorporate a company abroad without permission and without declaring the same in his nomination form as a candidate for election to Parliament,” the letter added.
Congress communication department head Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “The sole purpose appears to be to divert attention from inner revolt and paralysis of policy and governance being questioned all around.”

About the company’s annual return purportedly mentioning Rahul as a British national, Surjewala said: “Rahul Gandhi has not filed any such return. If somebody has committed an error while uploading, it can be corrected. It is correctable. Rahul has held Indian citizenship from the day he was born.”

As campaigning gathers momentum for the assembly elections in Bihar, the Congress held a farmers' rally in Delhi, in which party chief Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in whose name the BJP is seeking votes.

The BJP Hit Back within hours, with Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said Rahul Gandhi was taking the Prime Minister's name to "remain in news".

At a rally attended by thousands of farmers -- their turbans resembling like a sea of pink -- the party sought to underscore what they call the pro-corporate image of the government and heaped scorn on PM Modi's Make in India initiative.

It is not Make in India, it is Take in (From) India, Rahul Gandhi said. "There's no place for labourers and farmers in his Make in India. Only his (PM Modi's) selected friends will benefit from it," he added.

Calling the government's U-turn on land bill following the recommendation of a joint committee of Parliament a Congress victory, Mrs Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not understand the "seriousness of the protest by the Congress Party".

"When he saw the power of protest he had to take a step back," she said. "The battle (over the land bill), she said, has now shifted to other states."

The Congress had launched a protest against the amended version of the land acquisition bill, which was to replace the law passed by the UPA government in 2013. Following a massive protest by the united opposition, the bill had to be sent to the joint committee of Parliament and the contentious clauses were dropped.

But Mrs Gandhi said the situation of the farmers has not changed. "There is problem of drought, water, electricity," she said. "The Modi government has not the time or inclination to solve their problems."

Rahul Gandhi had held a rally in Bihar's West Champaran district yesterday. But allies Lalu Prasad, chief of RJD and Nitish Kumar of JDU had stayed away, saying they were busy with seat allotment.

Now You want Youth to Join Politics.
I say First you Join Politics. Because you haven’t Joined Politics. You have Joined a Family Business.
